MOORE, ROBERT PERCY

Robert Percy Moore was born April 23, 1925 in Hagerman Twp., son of Robert and Minnie Sarah (Jones) Moore.

Robert ‘Percy’ 1943-1944 joined the Dufferin-Haldimand Rifles but was drafted to South Sask. Reg’t. Killed in action at Rouen, France, August 20, 1944. Buried at Brette-sur-Laize, Canadian Military Cemetery. Canada, Britain, Europe

Percy Moore’s story is told in part in John Macfie’s book “Parry Sound Old Times” 1996 on pages 302 to 304. In July of 1944, Percy found himself in a draft of reinforcements for the South Saskatchewan Regiment who ranks had been depleted in the early stages of the Normandy campaign. Percy was killed when a unit of his regiment that was pursuing enemy forces that had escaped the Allied trap at Falaise were ambushed by a rearguard party.
